Main Lecture Theater: Historical tradition of our University. With regard to the 15th Anniversary of its creation

Abstract

The opening of the Main Lecture Theater of the Medical University of Havana in October 17, 2002 in the framework of the Historic Event about the 40^th Anniversary of the creation of "Victoria de Girón" Institute of Basic and Preclinical Sciences, was an important foundational event for our Higher Studies Center that already exhibited a leading trajectory of 15 years, as a principal institution.  The place, which is designed to welcome the celebration of solemn events, therefore indispensable in all university units, combines the architectural magnificence with the historical resource, which indubitably protects. Conscious of the need to preserve history as a source of values, we proposed to contribute to the comprehension and spreading of the historical heritage that its symbols contain, and very specially the gallery of portraits of distinguished personalities of the Cuban Medical Sciences. The meaning of relevant figures by their professional legacy, and socio-political commitment in the historical moment they lived, and in general as a co-substantial part of the history of the nation is explained. Biographical sketches are included, which synthesize the essence of this legacy, define the significance of each figure as an incentive for a further study, and perpetuate a significant part of the cultural heritage of our University for future generations.
