Abstract

Introduction: Burnout syndrome is defined as the mental, emotional and physical exhaustion caused by work, characterized by 3 fundamental dimensions: physical fatigue, depersonalization, and personal fulfilment. In workers of the Unión Cementera Nacional, Ecuador, traits of the syndrome have been identified.

Objective: To identify the sociodemographic and work-related determining factors that affect the development of Burnout syndrome in the workers of the Unión Cementera Nacional company.

Material and Methods: A descriptive observational study was carried out on the company's workers during 2023. A total of 160 workers (143 men and 17 women) were included in the study, which included administrative and support staff along with workers who carried out raw material extraction and processing activities. To measure BS in its three dimensions, the Maslach Burnout Inventory test was used. The probit model was used for the possible association between each of the dimensions of the dependent variable and the independent variables.

Results: There is a low level within the emotional exhaustion dimension, so it does not comply with the existence of Burnout syndrome. Nor is there evidence of the predominant existence of the syndrome within the depersonalization dimension. It is determined that there is the presence of Burnout syndrome in the personal achievement dimension in most of the respondents according to the established theoretical qualification.

Conclusions: The results highlight the low presence of Burnout syndrome in the surveyed workers, being identified only in one of the three dimensions evaluated.
