Use of electronic devices and their influence on computer vision syndrome in university students

Introduction: The extensive use of electronic devices is not risk free. Several studies have highlighted the link between prolonged screen time and a range of health problems.
Objective: To examine the relationship between electronic device usage and the occurrence of Computer Vision Syndrome among university students.
Material and Methods: A descriptive, observational and cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach was performed. A random sample of 292 students was surveyed to gather sociodemographic data and determine whether any factors in this category were associated with Computer Vision Syndrome.
Results: The results showed that a large number of students (67.1%) reported experiencing at least one symptom associated with Computer Vision Syndrome. One of the most concerning factors identified in the study was the high percentage of students spending more than two hours a day in front of electronic device screens (87.2%).
Conclusions: A significant number of students experiences symptoms of Computer Vision Syndrome, highlighting the need to recognize this condition as an emerging health problem within the academic environment.
