Incidence and geographical origin of neonatal mastitis in Havana province, 2013-2014
Abstract
Introduction: It is appreciated the admission of neonates with mastitis, whose geographical origin is diverse, but is clustered in determinates geographical areas in La Habana province.
Objetive: To determinate the incidence and geographical clustering by hospitals and municipalities from La Habana province of cases with neonatal mastitis.
Material and methods: Descriptive, retrospective and transversal study of neonates with mastitis, admitted in the Neonatal open services at the pediatric hospitals "Juan Manuel Márquez" and "William Soler", in Havana province, during the year 2013 and first trimester of 2014. The information was obtained from the clinical charts of these patients and from the statistical records of the Hospital Epidemiology department of La Habana province and it was processed by descriptive statistic.
Results: The incidence of neonatal mastitis in Havana province for the studied period was 3.56 x 1,000 live born. The cases proportion with neonatal mastitis was higher for those who were born in the "Luis Díaz Soto" hospital and those who were from the Habana del Este municipality, with differences when it is compared each other municipalities of the Havana province.
Conclusions: There incidence of neonatal during the studied period in Havana province indicate to be higher as commonly reported, with predominance of cases from the Habana del Este municipality, and cases born in the "Luis Díaz Soto" hospital, which suggest that may exist there environmental conditions, or other kinds of aspects, that facilitate the affection.
