Abstract

Introduction: In the last decades, dentistry has experienced a great technological development and availability of resources for prosthetic rehabilitation, mainly in dental implants. To evaluate bond tissue reactions to dental implants, the dentistry´s Faculty "Raúl González Sánchez" at Havana developed an umbrella project in collaboration with Ariminum Research and Dental Education Center (Italy), and ICBPC "Victoria de Girón" (Cuba).
Objective: To evaluate the most outstanding results of an umbrella´s international collaboration project on regeneration and bone tissue integration of dental implants.
Material and Methods: Documental review, data base analysis, bibliographic analysis and synthesis. The variables were among others: facilities rehabilitation, training and experimental task.
Results: 25 sub-projects regarding to experimental tasks in animal models were developed. The rehabilitations of Pathology laboratory of the Dentistry's Faculty, Bioterio and the Center for Experimental Surgery of the ICBPC "Victoria de Girón"; 4 trainings courses to Cuban researches; the presentation of 53 papers in 13 scientific events; and the publication of 23 articles in high impact journals were achieved. New knowledge was obtained and incorporated into Stomatological Sciences Doctorate´s thesis of 6 Italian researches who obtain the scientific degree, representing in general a scientific and economic contribution.
Conclusions: Umbrella´s international collaboration project allowed to the rehabilitation of facilities of the Havana Medical Sciences University, the technology development of laboratories, new knowledges on the regeneration and bone tissue integration processes in dental implants, as well as training actions for Cuban researches and the achievement of scientific degrees by Italian researchers.
