Dr. Rolando Hernández Fernández: A Paradigm in the Cuban Higher Medical Education

The development and implementation of study plans for undergraduate Health Science students and postgraduate Clinical Biochemistry and Medical Genetics students, as well as the publication of dozens of textbooks, teaching materials, and update works, are considerably highlighted in Dr. Rolando Aníbal Hernández Fernandez’s professional career. With well-known prestige because of his deep and up-to-date knowledge on different issues, he seamlessly mastered the rules and principles of the pedagogical mastery, which were based on solid ideological and political positions. Although he managed to achieve more than a few awards in his lifetime, the recognition and affection of his students were among the most gratifying achievements for him. His fervent love for his homeland, and his commitment to the revolutionary process explained his entire lifework. His physical disappearance occurred when he was still in full exercise of his administrative obligations and duties as a professor, by virtue of the indefatigable and hard-working spirit that characterized him throughout his fruitful existence. Those of us who had the privilege of knowing Dr. Rolando will always remember him as a paradigm of teacher and scientist in the Cuban Higher Medical Education.
